SERVICES:

Gisèle's practice is focused primarily on counselling for women and couples of all ages. Some time is also devoted to individual counselling with men, as well as with teenagers and older children, depending on circumstances.

She has provided counselling for various concerns over the last 10 years of private practice. These include emotional difficulties and challenging situations such as:
* anxiety, * depression, * stress, * past and present trauma, * loss, * eating disorders, * midlife issues, * geographical transitions, * relationship problems, and * separation.

In addition, she has an ongoing interest in fertility-related issues, such as:

  • fertility/ conception problems, - unplanned or difficult pregnancy,
  • childbirth trauma, and - loss & grieving.

    APPROACH:

    Inspired by various sources, including up-to-date evidence-based therapeutic standards, in order to meet individual needs and wishes. Therapy is conducted in as timely and practical a manner as possible, and aims at all times to be respectful, compassionate, holistic, and creative.

    Specific sessions might include:

  • history-taking and collaborative interpretation
  • assessment of options, lifestyle, and coping skills
  • assessment of relationships and communication patterns
  • examination of family influences
  • analysis of links between thoughts, feelings, and actions
  • relaxation training and body image work
  • working through grief or anger
  • enhancement of expressive skills and self-esteem.

    QUALIFICATIONS & BACKGROUND:

    * Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology (Queen's University, Kingston, 1989)

    * Certificate of Registration as a Psychologist in Ontario (College of Psychologists of Ontario, 1993)

    Twenty years experience with counselling in the Kingston area.
    Doing practical work in the field of Psychology since 1981.

    HOURS & FEES:

    Day-time hours, during the week only.
    $125 / hour
    All services are GST-exempt.

    Psychologists working outside of a hospital setting are not covered by OHIP. However, most extended health care plans (such as Blue Cross and Sunlife) provide at least partial coverage for psychological services. Cheques which are post-dated to coincide with reimbursement are accepted.

    Also, many workplace benefit packages now include short-term counselling in their Employee Assistance Programs (EAP). These are confidential services that are entirely paid for by the employer. - Gisèle presently has contracts with the following EAPs: Health Canada / Santé Canada, Posaction (SOLAREH), Shepell-fgi, Sylvie Pelletier Consultants, and Wilson Banwell-PROACT.

    REFERRALS:

    May be made directly by the client and/or family, or can be made by physicians or community agencies, with client consent. Phone calls are usually returned within 24 hours, and first appointments are most often set up within 1 to 2 weeks.

    LOCATION:
