Dragon boat races were traditionally held in China as a ceremony to bring luck and ward of disaster. Today racers paddle their boats to the beat of large drums, striving to snatch the flag at the end of the course. The sport is rapidly gaining in popularity and is fun for both the participants as well as the spectators.

June 28-30, 2008 "Fanfayr" Juried Outdoor Art and Crafts Show
FANFAYR is the Outdoor Juried Art and Crafts Show held annually since 1982. Exhibitors come from across Ontario and southern Québec to display and sell their art and crafts in a beautiful setting by Lake Ontario. A wide range of art and crafts will be on view. There will be artists and craftspeople working in wood, glass, tie dye, jewellery, oils, acrylics, watercolour, pottery, small furniture, leather, metal, designer clothing, hats for children and adults, and more. All articles are handmade and unique! Many old favourites will return, and they will be joined by equally exciting new exhibitors.

The Limestone Mile, FanFayre, a Red and White parade, a civic ceremony, and all day music will end with a spectacular fireworks display in downtown Kingston, or families can spend their afternoon at Grass Creek Park for family activities, music, games, and good food. August 8-9, 2008 1000 Islands Poker Run
1000 Islands Poker Run held in Kingston, Ontario is the largest international poker run with more than 50,000 spectators converging in Downtown Kingston! The event begins from Confederation Basin where spectators can come and check out the boats on Friday night and then spend the day on Saturday watching the boats take off, checking out classic car displays and listening to live music in the park. Sunday features the time trials held at Richardson Beach.

The Women's Art Festival was started in the late 70's by a group of women who were interested in promoting the work of women artists. This outstanding annual one day rain or shine festival has always operated the third Sunday of August. The original concept for the festival has, for the most part, remained unchanged. This non-juried festival features original art designed and created by women and includes painting, printmaking, sculpture and pottery, jewelry, drawing, photography and fabric art to name a few.
